Pacific Typhoon depicts the history of the air-naval battles of the Pacific Theatre in World War II. The players compete in a series of famous battles represented by the battle cards. Each battle lasts for one round of play in which the players commit force cards from their hands to influence the outcome of the battle. Force cards represent warships, submarines, aircraft, special weapons, and events-everything from midget submarines to the largest battleships ever built and the atomic bomb. Japanese forces have a numerical advantage during the first years of the war, but the Allies gain a combat advantage during the later years.

The rulebook offers six variants of the game so you can choose one that best satisfies your gaming group. Play the game with or without teams, fight the battles in or out of chronological order, and play for a short length of time (about an hour) or for longer (about 90 minutes).

Your individual success depends mostly on how carefully you manage your hand of cards. Ideally, you want to play on the winning side in every battle, no matter what the battle year or type is. Pacific Typhoon is also a social game where table talk and persuasion often affect the result.

As with any card game, there is luck involved with the draw of the cards (and an occasional die roll in the game). But victory most often goes to the player who knows the deck best. Â
